You Are a King

During this season of Advent, we await the arrival of Jesus. Although he came as an infant, he was and is the King of Kings. His humble beginnings led to the largest religion in the world, with over 2.38 billion Christians worldwide.

This is impressive but it is also impersonal. It’s easy to forget that by baptism we ourselves are adopted into Christ’s divine kingship. We are called to imitate Him, to rule wisely, to steward all aspects of our lives in ways that bring them into union with God as a fitting gift.

My experience is that there are times I abdicate my kingship. I am temporarily blind and allow myself to be ruled by my circumstances. Other times I am awake, present to the inner reality behind things, ready to steward the circumstances I’ve been gifted toward a greater unfolding of the Good.

This week I invite you to ask:

How present am I to the reality of my Kingship in Christ? In what areas might I be tolerating being ruled by my circumstances in an undignified way? What might it look like for me to step more boldly into my dignity and responsibility as a King?

God bless,
Dan
