Just One Thing

In the early 20th century, the steel magnate Charles M. Schwab, was given a piece of advice by a consultant. He told him to write down the six most important tasks for the day, to rank them according to priority, and to work solely on the first one until it was finished. The process was to be repeated daily for a few weeks. The consultant requested that, after the trial period, he be sent a check for whatever Schwab thought the advice was worth. Schwab ended up sending a $25,000 check, the equivalent of $500,000 in today’s currency.

Last week, I had a few days where I implemented something like this process. I pondered what would be one thing I could do that day that would be of significant value. Then I did it. I am convinced that if I were to do this every day for an extended period of time, my life would be transformed.

This week, I invite you to ask yourself:

What are my most important tasks? Of these, which would make the biggest difference? Which task am I committed to completing today?

God bless,
Dan
